Coming Home — Artist Statement
Coming Home speaks to a quiet return — not to a place, but to something deeper.
For me, it's a return to what first made me want to paint: movement, adventure, and the simple beauty of pattern as language.
I began painting because I missed surfing. I missed the pulse of salt water and the clarity of the horizon. Over time, my subjects changed, but the instinct stayed the same. I was always trying to translate a feeling of freedom — of being suspended between effort and ease — into form, rhythm, and movement.
In this series, I've come back to motifs that have followed me across decades and islands: shells, textiles, the soft geometry of Ikat. These are more than aesthetic choices. They're vessels of memory. Woven threads, like tide lines, mark time and endurance. Shells, like small homes, carry stories of movement and return.
After years of exploration, this work feels like closing a circle. It integrates where I've been and what has shaped me. The adventure and the art are no longer separate. They coexist in the same breath.
Coming Home is a reconciliation between the artist and the woman — the external seeker and the inward witness. It's about belonging not to one place, but to the pulse that connects them all.
